Big Changes Coming in the New Year: A Modernized Authentication Experience for MigrationWiz Users

As we head into the new year, MigrationWiz customers can expect a series of important updates designed to improve security, streamline project setup, and ensure long-term compatibility with Microsoft’s increasingly modernized cloud ecosystem.

We’re excited to share that we are modernizing our Microsoft 365 authentication and authorization architecture, adopting the Microsoft Identity Platform OAuth 2.0 endpoint. This foundational upgrade will deliver stronger security, a smoother onboarding experience, and better stability across all Microsoft 365 workloads.

What’s Changing and Why It Matters

Microsoft continues to evolve its identity and access standards, and these changes impact how partners like MigrationWiz authenticate and authorize migration activities. To stay aligned with Microsoft’s roadmap and to better support environments with MFA and conditional access, we are rebuilding and optimizing the entire M365 authentication flow.

As these updates roll out in the new year, MigrationWiz users will see improvements across setup, consent, reliability, and ongoing project management.

Here’s what you can expect.

Key Enhancements Coming Your Way

Modern PKCE-Based Authentication

We’re implementing Proof Key for Code Exchange (PKCE), Microsoft’s recommended, modern delegated authentication method. This approach increases security while reducing configuration steps.

Application Consent Authentication

Customers will securely grant application-level permissions using Microsoft’s updated consent models, improving reliability and eliminating many historical setup issues.

Streamlined Permission Model

We’ve are simplifying permission selection to eliminate confusion and reduce misconfiguration during project setup.

Integrated In-UI Consent Flow

Consent will be handled with the MigrationWiz interface for a smooth and intuitive experience.

Improved Reliability for MFA-Enabled Tenants

As Microsoft moves forward with MFA enforcement, our new design ensures better consistency and lower friction for tenants using advanced security controls.

Future-Ready for Graph API

This upgrade lays the groundwork for expanded Graph API support, now under development, which will unlock new capabilities and more resilient migrations across Microsoft 365 workloads.

What This Means for You in the New Year

These enhancements will strengthen your security posture, simplify your migration workflows, and reduce the chances of setup issues in complex or highly secured environments.

Most importantly, this modernization ensures that MigrationWiz remains fully compatible with Microsoft’s evolving cloud identity architecture both today and in the years to come.

As these updates roll out, please keep an eye on your inbox and MigrationWiz dashboard for release notifications and any required actions.
